Tata Steel at Noamundi organises SABAL SAHIYOG to promote diversity, inclusion and synergy

Taking forward the people-oriented culture of diversity and inclusion, Tata Steel’s Ore Mines & Quarries(OMQ) Division organised SABAL SAHIYOG, a conclave promoting convergence and collaboration among all stakeholders of Persons with Disabilities (PwD) at Officers’ Club, Noamundi. Mr Satish Chandra, Disability Commissioner, Government of Jharkhand graced the occasion as Chief Guest along with Mr Manish Mishra, General Manager, Ore Mines & Quarries (OMQ) Division, Tata Steel.

SABAL SAHIYOG focused on ensuring the dignity of people with disabilities, is a one of its kind initiative by Tata Steel in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand. It aims to create a platform where Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), governmental bodies along with Tata Steel as a corporate, can synergise their efforts in weaving a better future for PwDs in India. More than 80 representatives from 35 eminent NGOs from the states of Nagaland, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar and Jharkhand participated in the conclave.

Welcoming all the dignitaries from across India, Mr Manish Mishra said:“ If we all do our best that we can, we can build a more diversified and inclusive environment. I am sure there will be a lot of takeaways from this conclave.”

Addressing the gathering, Mr Satish Chandra said: “It’s a big event at a small location. I am really very happy to see SABAL bloom this way. This initiative by Tata Steel to groom PwDs in a dedicated manner, in many ways is a pathbreaker.

Sharing her experience, Ms Shanti Raghavan, Founder, Enable India said:“ The definition of ability is ever changing, what is normal to one, might be difficult for the other. We need to be sensitive, inclusive and rational in our understanding, only then we can create an environment where diversity can bloom. Tata Steel has done a remarkable job in putting together a platform from where PwDs can take a leap of faith. We are happy to partner with Tata Steel in the entire venture. ” 

India’s first sight impaired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officer, Mr Rajesh Singh said: “It is a wonderful initiative by Tata Steel and I wish to extend my best wishes on its way forward.”

In a day-long conclave focused on realising the collective strength, different games, activities and team work tasks kept all engrossed. The evening concluded with cultural progamme presented by PwDs.
