A pioneering programme in the Indian manufacturing sector, Women Of Mettle is open to female students from select engineering colleges. The shortlisted students get to work on a live technical challenge and present the solution live to the jury at Jamshedpur. The top 10 candidates not only get the opportunity to become the recipient of a scholarship but will also be entitled to a career at Tata Steel.

This Manager position itself defines not just the technical portion. It includes all the managerial actions like management of people, resources, etc. I find it very fascinating being in an LD shop. The environment is difficult to work in but it brings excitement every day.
BEING THE GUARDIAN OF150 MEN WAS SOMETHING I COULD NOT HAVE THOUGHT OF.
I landed on a rough plane of myths that women cannot work in the manufacturing sector, myth that a young women can't head a team of men, myth that the manufacturing industry is male dominant, with poor acceptability for women... but gradually all such myths crashed and one day an employee remarked that I joining their Section was one of the best things that has ever happened to them and while leaving their home, they would tell their families that they have a responsible guardian to look after them in the plant... and that was me... guardian of 150 odd men double my age!.

The scholarship amount would be extended for the 2 years of her remaining Engineering degree, only if the Scholar is in the Top 25% of her course in every semester.

The submission for the pre-screening round must only be a presentation (ppt format, maximum 12 slides) that covers the following:
• Executive Summary
• Introduction to the problem statement
• Analysis of the problem
• The presentation format for final round will be communicated to the shortlisted candidates
Evaluation of the entries would be based on their practical applicability and feasibility to implement
The idea could be used based on the feasibility and ease of implementation.
It is open to the list of only select institutes.
Tata Steel Ltd. would prefer if the slide content is within the prescribed range.
The evaluations are confidential and at the discretion of the panel of judges.
All decisions are final and binding and cannot be contested.
No Annexures should be added during the initial round. However at the final presentations, the annexures would be mandatory to be submitted along with the final presentation
