Watch the Founder's Day 2023 Celebrations from Jamshedpur

Born on March 3, 1839, Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata envisioned projects that laid the foundation for our country’s development. These institutions continue to be guiding lights for others even today. An industrialist, yes; but even more a pioneer and a visionary who cared deeply for people and for our country. He is remembered, above all, for his philanthropy.

Jamsetji’s efforts propelled our country into the league of industrialised nations and showed the world what India could achieve. While setting up the steel plant at Jamshedpur (then Sakchi), he was faced with several hurdles. It was only because of his determination that the venture came to fruition. Though he passed away eight years before the first ingot of steel was rolled out from Tata Steel Jamshedpur, his spirit continues to live on and inspire us to work towards a bright future.

Sustainability was rooted in Jamsetji’s plans for the Steel City of Jamshedpur over a century ago. A passionate and unparalleled conservationist, his resolve and ideals continue to inspire us. We are developing technologies for a zero-carbon workplace, restoring biodiversity and driving a circular economy by recycling scrap steel. Greennovation today, for a better tomorrow.
