Combining driving personalised services for customers through developing and implementing new ideas in products & services.

We are committed to investing in long-term business relationships, which helps us develop new products and technologies. Our Research and Development (R&D) business combines continuous innovation with state-of-the-art technology, enabling us to deliver best products, solutions and services. With a team of over 1,000 researchers across India, The UK and the Netherlands, R&D has developed several grades of special steel over the years.

Working in collaboration with top global universities and research institutes, as well as key customers in automotive, transportation, packaging, and construction industries, we supply metal solutions to Tata Steel manufacturing sites across the world.

In South East Asia, we are committed to reducing volumes of imported wire rod and energy and power consumption. We are also focused on growing our value-added products and services portfolio throughout the region while strengthening our key steel operations internationally by adding value to the construction industry such as carpet reinforcement.

Spurred by the spirit of innovation, we are dedicated to developing cutting-edge technologies and designing solutions that help transform processes, improve inefficiencies and enhance customer experience world over.

Innovation is an integral part of our existence. It is engrained in our work culture. We believe that self-reliance in technology is a pre-requisite for growth, especially in the context of expanding operations. It is our endeavour to provide a complete solution by producing end products.

We make every attempt to adopt best practices, modern technologies and innovation to ensure that our mining activities are efficient and sustainable with minimal or no environmental or social impact.

A few of the  ‘Firsts’  from Tata Steel, India

  • Launched Tata Agrico in 1920s, the 1st brand of steel agricultural implement in India.
  • First to introduce a retail brand of reinforcement bars with Tata Tiscon

Some of the innovative steps taken globally

  • Tata Steel in Europe has invested significantly in the development of life cycle assessment models for many sectors. It helps us advise our customers at the design stage of their products made from steel to help minimise energy usage.
  • Tata Steel Europe is also working with other steelmakers in Europe on major research and development project, ULCOS (ultra-low CO2 steelmaking), to develop breakthrough technologies which can reduce CO2 emissions per tonne of steel produced by at least 50%.
