Tata Steel to set up a polytechnic at Jamshedpur in collaboration with NTTF, Bangalore
Tata Steel has decided to set up a world class Polytechnic in Jamshedpur in collaboration with a well known technical training organisation, Nettur Technical Training Foundation(NTTF), of Bangalore.
NTTF has vast experience in the field of technical training and are already running over a dozen such institutes where students are awarded diplomas in numerous technical discipline. They also run Post Diploma and Post Graduate courses in some disciplines.
The Managing Director of NTTF Mr. N. Reguraj came to Jamshedpur and an MOU was signed on 1.1.2003 between Tata Steel and NTTF. The polytechnic will be known as R D Tata Technical Education Centre and will be established in the premises presently occupied by R D Tata High School. This Polytechnic will primarily be meant for the children of Tata Steel, and outsiders will be admitted only if all the seats are not filled up by employees' children.
The R D Tata Technical Education Centre will initially have three disciplines namely, Tool & Die Making, Electronics, and Mechatronics. All these three branches are in such high demand that almost hundred percent of the students from other Institutions of NTTF get placed in Industries by the time they finish their training.
The institute will have 30 (thirty) seats in each of the three branches, i.e. a total of 90 (ninety) students will be admitted every year. The selection will be through a common entrance examination which NTTF conducts on an All India basis for admission to it's Institutes.
This initiative has been taken up by Tata Steel to increase the employment potential of the children of its employees.
