Tata Steel mines receive 20 Awards for Excellence in Environmental Management Practices

Bhubaneswar, July 23, 2019

~ Recognised at the 21st Mines Environment and Mineral Conservation Week, organised under the aegis of Indian Bureau of Mines, Bhubaneswar Region ~

Tata Steel’s mining divisions - Ore Mines & Quarries (OMQ) Division and Ferro Alloys & Minerals Division (FAMD) have been recognised with 20 awards in different categories, for excellence in environment management & mineral conservation, at the recently held Mines Environment and Mineral Conservation (MEMC) Week in Bhubaneswar.

The awards were presented on the concluding day of the 21st Mines Environment and Mineral Conservation (MEMC) Week, 2018-19, organised under the aegis of Indian Bureau of Mines(IBM), Bhubaneswar Region, on July 19, 2019 at Hotel Crown, Bhubaneswar.

Tata Steel’s OMQ division, comprising Joda East Iron Mine and Katamati Iron Mine, won six awards. FAMD, comprising Joda West Iron and Manganese Mine, Bamebari Iron and Manganese Mine, Tiringpahar Iron and Manganese Mine and Sukinda Chromite Mine, bagged 14 awards. These awards were given in various categories like Overall Performance, Systematic and Scientific Development, Reclamation and Rehabilitation, Mineral Conservation, Waste Dump Management, Mineral Beneficiation, Publicity & Propaganda, etc.

Mr. Rajesh Patel, Chief, Mining (Sukinda), Tata Steel, along with other senior officials and union leaders from OMQ division & FAMD received the awards. Tata Steel has always believed in the importance of environmental conservation through its various endeavours and organises various activities, supporting the cause, every year. As part of its commitment to environment, the Company regularly monitors and reviews its environmental performance.

Dr. K Rajeswara Rao (IAS), Additional Secretary & Controller General (I/C), IBM, Ministry of Mines, Government of India graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Mr. Deepak Mohanty (IFS), Director of Mines, Govt. of Odisha, Mr. Debidutta Biswal (IFS), Member secretary, State Pollution Control Board, Govt. of Odisha, Mr. Piyush Narayan Sharma, COM & Chief Controller of Mines (I/C), IBM, Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India and Mr. Pankaj Kulshreshta, Controller of Mines (EZ), IBM, Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India, were also present on the occasion.
