Launch of 'E-CAUP' Safety Campaign and Closing ceremony of ‘Zero Harm’ to Contractor Employees campaign in Tata Steel

Jamshedpur, July 12, 2019

Tata Steel today organized the launch of ‘E-CAUP’ campaign and hosted the Closing ceremony of “Zero Harm to Contractor Employees” campaign at the Steelennium Hall, Jamshedpur. Mr. Anand Sen, President TQM & SB was the Chief Guest, and Mr. R Rabi Prasad, President, TWU was the Guest of Honour. Other dignitaries who graced the occasion were Mr Sanjiv Paul, VP-Safety, Health & Sustainability, Mr. Sudhansu Pathak, VP-Steel Manufacturing, Mr. Chanakya Chaudhury, VP-Corporate Services, Mr. Arvind Pandey, Deputy President TWU, Mr. Vijay Kumar Nirala, Chief Safety and Mr Amit Kumar Singh, Chief Process Safety. Other senior officials of the Company also attended the programme along with office bearers of TWU, employees, as well as vendor partners and their employees.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Anand Sen reiterated the importance of what still needs to be done still in achieving the stated objective. He emphasized on three points to improve safety. These were systematic simplification of work processes to avoid any shortcut in the job, increased focus on job in place of specific task associated with the same to reduce the risk and change of mindset to interdependence rather than taking it as interference.

Mr Sanjiv Paul in his keynote address, advised all present to work together to eliminate Commonly Accepted Unsafe Practices. Expressing concern about incidents and injuries, he pointed out that 24% of injuries and 66% of the fatalities are due to Commonly Accepted Unsafe Practices. This needs to be eliminated.

Mr. Rabi Prasad, in his address, insisted on the criticality of Standard Operating Practices (SOPs) to eradicate unsafe practices in all departments. He urges employees to be more alert and attentive at work and to follow the SOPs. 

Earlier, in his welcome address, Mr. Nirala, set the context and briefed all present about the accomplishment of the safety campaign “Zero Harm” to Contractor employees. Exceptional performers during the campaign were recognized.

All the dignitaries present on dais, then e-launched the “E-CAUP” safety campaign. They also unveiled the IT system for E-CAUP.

Mr Amit Singh, briefed the audience present on the activity plan for this campaign which will be continued for the next three months across Tata Steel.

A film on E-CAUP was screened during the function.
