Tata Steel organizes sporting events & Cultural programs on the eve of World Disability Day

On the occasion of the World Disability Day 2010, Tata Steel Limited organised sporting events, cultural programs for special participants. The events were organised to acknowledge that these special children are equally and important part of our community. The occasion was market with celebrations by Tata Steel’s Urban Services department in association with local N.G.O's at Gopal Maidan, Jharkhand. Around 200 visually impaired, hearing impaired & physically challenged special children participated in the celebrations wherein 19 sporting events and cultural celebrations.

Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS), Jharia Division in collaboration with LEPRA Society- SPARSH an Integrated Prevention for Disability Camp at Sparsh Centre.The Objective of the Camp was to demonstrate Self-Care and Distribute Self-Care Kits, Assess the disability of the Patients and issue Multi-Celluar Rubber Slipper and also select patients for Reconstructive Surgery. About 50 different cases of Leprosy were present comprising of Neuritis, Reaction and Grade-11 types at the Centre. Ten new cases were identified and were put under Multi Drug Therapy Treatment. Smear of about 20 patients were tested and were found positive in the Sparsh Centre. Presently at the Sparsh Centre about 294 Leprosy patients are undergoing treatment and Care and about 77 Lymphatic Filariasis patients are also been treated in the Centre.
