Summer Camp 2019 was inaugurated today by the Chief Guest, Ms. Ruchi Narendran at the JRD Tata Sports Complex.  Mr. Ravi Radhakrishnan, Chief, Aviation & Sports, Tata Steel and Mr. Navkant Jha, Union Committee Member, were Special Guests on the occasion. All the officials of Tata Steel Sports Department along with more than 100 coaches of different sporting disciplines were also present at the function. 

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Ruchi Narendran applauded the role of the Sports Department in organizing the Sports Camp. “The facility at JRD Tata Sports Complex provides unparalleled opportunity for the kids and youth to take part in some or other sporting event during the Summer Camp. I congratulate the participants and wish for a successful and safe Summer Camp,” she said.

The Camp is scheduled during the period May 13-31, 2019. The objective of the Camp is to inculcate a healthy lifestyle amongst the participants.

The atmosphere at the venue today was full of jubilation with the presence of the youngsters. To start with, they were given sessions on laughter therapy and light yoga. The renowned magician Mr Sudhir Majumdar also regaled the participants with his magic which was enjoyed by all. Thereafter, coaches of various disciplines took the trainees to different centres where they will be imparted training.

As many as 3,535 kids and youth have been enrolled in various sporting disciplines. These include Archery, Badminton, Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Boxing, Tennis, Table Tennis, Swimming, Karate, Kabbadi, Zumba, Yoga, Roller Skates, Athletics, Handball, Gold and Chess. Majority of the training at the Summer Camp would imparted at the JRD Tata Sports Complex. Football training would be given at Armoury Ground, while Cricket inputs would be provided at the Keenan Stadium. Golf training would be imparted at the Beldih Golf Course. Yoga and Zumba will be for all age groups.

One of the unique initiatives taken this year has been to provide the participating kids with caps and backpacks to make it easier for them to carry the required equipment to the Camp.
