Tata Steel felicitates Archery Academy Cadet Ms Komolika Bari on World Beating Performance

Tata Steel today felicitated Tata Archery Academy (TAA) cadet Komalika Bari, on her winning the Gold medal in the Women’s Cadet Recurve category in the World Archery Youth & Cadet Championship 2019. The championship was organised in Madrid, Spain, from August 19-25, 2019.

The Chief Guest at the function was Mr. Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel. Other dignitaries present included Dr Rajan Chaudhry, GM (Medical Services), Mr. Ritu Raj Sinha, Chief Corporate Administration, and Mr. Mukul Vinayak Choudhari, Chief Sports Excellence Centres. Mr. Ashish Kumar, Head Sports, was the Master of Ceremonies.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Chanakya Chaudhary said “Our heartiest congratulations to Komolika Bari on her stupendous achievement. It is indeed gratifying to see a cadet from the Tata Archery Academy emerge an international champion. We stand committed the development of archery and to hone the skills of talented archers of the state. We wish Ms Bari more success in the years ahead”.

Others felicitated on the occasion were Mr Dharmendra Tiwari, Chief Coach, Ms Purnima Mahato, Asst. Jr. Coach and Mr Anil Kumar, Asst. Coach who also accompanied her to the Championship. In addition, Lakshmi Hembram – another talented Archer from the academy who was selected for the Indian team for this tournament, was also felicitated. Lakshmi performed very well, narrowly missing a spot on the podium.

In a wonderful gesture, the Archery Academy had invited Komolika’s parents to the ceremony and it was a pleasant surprise for her as well as all present when they came over for this proud moment. Other members of Komolika’s family were also present along with her grand mother who cut the cake and blessed her.

Dr Rajan Chaudhry, GM (Medical Services), Mr.Ritu Raj Sinha, Chief Corporate Administration, and Mr. Mukul Vinayak Choudhari, Chief Sports Excellence Centres addressed the gathering and shared motivational insights.

As already reported, Ms. Bari defeated Waka Sonoda of Japan by 7-3 in the finals, bringing laurels to the Tata Archery Academy, which had been instrumental in honing her talent.

The 17-year old became India’s second recurve cadet (under-18) world champion after Deepika Kumari, also a former cadet of Tata Archery Academy, who won the title in 2009.

Komalika Bari hails from Jamshedpur and had started archery training in the year 2012 at the age of 11 at ISWP training centre facility in Jamshedpur. She joined Tata Archery Academy in 2016 and has been training in TAA for three years now under one of the best coaching panels of Archery in India comprising ace coaches - Mr. Dharmendra Tiwary, Ms. Purnima Mahato, Mr. Anil Kumar and Mr. Bikash Upadhyay.
