Tata Steel set to celebrate 161st Hul Divas
Tata Steel’s Tribal Cultural Society (TCS) will celebrate the 161st Sidhu-Kanhu Hul Divas on June 30, 2016.
Cultural events at community level have been lined up at Sidhu Kanhu Chand Bhairav Society,Doladih, Potka to observe the iconic day, which marks the contribution of tribal martyrs Sidhu and Kanhu who sacrificed their lives while fighting for the country’s independence.
Moreover, in remembrance of the two tribal martyrs, TCS organized various competitions in schools on June 25, 2016 and June 28. 2016. Drawing and essay competitions were held at three schools—Sidhu Kanhu School, Kedo; Sidhu Kanhu Memorial High School, Bagantola; and SidhuKanhu Siksha Niketan, Dimna.
Around 400 students showed their creativity by participating in the school-level competitions.Winners will be felicitated on June 30 th , 2016.
About Hul Divas
Hul is a Santhali word meaning revolution. Hul Divas commemorates the martyrdom of four brothers - Sidho, Kanhu, Chand and Vairav. They led the SanthalHul (1855-57), assembling a large number of Santhals against the British Rule, one of the fiercest uprisings that the British administration ever faced in India. With the battle-cry of AbuaDisum, Abua Raj (Our State, our control) they announced freedom from the oppression of British rule.
