Tata Steel today dedicated ‘Billion Impressions’, a new art installation made entirely of Tata Structura steel tubes, to the people of Ranchi. The installation, housed in Ranchi’s Bhagwan Birsa Munda Smriti Park, was inaugurated by the Honourable Chief Minister of Jharkhand Shri Hemant Soren in the presence of T. V. Narendran, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Steel, and other senior officials from the state government and Tata Steel.

‘Billion Impressions’ is designed in the form of two thumb impressions balancing each other, a symbolic attempt to represent the ‘past impressions’ gathered from our achievements and events supporting ‘future impressions’, helping our nation’s youth and innovative endeavours. The timeless sculpture highlights the importance of being bound to and learning from our heritage as we progress towards a brighter tomorrow.

Crafted in steel, the installation celebrates India’s diversity and the unique identity of each individual. The sculpture pays tribute to the indelible mark made by those who have shaped the past and connect with those who will shape the future.

T. V. Narendran, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Steel, said: “Tata Steel is proud to dedicate ‘Billion Impressions’, a unique art installation made entirely of Tata Structura’s steel sections, to the people of Ranchi. ‘Billion Impressions’ seamlessly binds the past, present, and future, reminding us that the India of tomorrow will continue to be shaped by our diverse history and heritage. This urban art installation explores the limitless possibilities of steel, and reinforces the Company’s unwavering commitment to shaping a better future for India.”

Designed with precision, Tata Structura’s YST355 steel sections breathe life into this monumental artwork that seamlessly blends into Ranchi’s landscape. The structure, weighing approximately 16 tonnes, stands tall at an impressive 12.5 meters and has an overall dimension of 7.8 m x 7 m x 12.5 m.

‘Billion Impressions’ was the winning entry of the 2021 edition of ‘Notions of India’, an International Design Competition by Tata Structura. The inaugural edition of the competition was launched in 2006.
