Tata Steel’s OMQ Division observes "World No Tobacco Day"

Observing ‘World No Tobacco Day’, Tata Steel’s Ore Mines & Quarries (OMQ) Division organised 4 rallies today at Noamundi and Joda with an objective to create awareness among the community. 

Mr Parthasarathi Mishra, Chief, Human Resource Management (HRM), OMQ Division, Tata Steel graced the occasion as Chief Guest at Noamundi, while Mr Rajesh Kumar, Chief, Joda East Iron Mine, Tata Steel graced the occasion as Chief Guest at Joda. The theme this year is ‘Tobacco and Lung Health’.

 With an objective to highlight the health risks associated with tobacco use and advocating for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption, the rallies focused on educating the community. Over 600 people from both locations participated in the rally including school children. During the rally, children with plaque cards reflecting the ill effects of tobacco use, marched with local community. An awareness session, both at Tata Steel Hospital, Noamundi and Joda was orgnised for the locals. Dr Askok Kumar Ray, Chief Medical Officer(CMO), Tata Steel Hospital, Joda and Dr Dhirendra Kumar, Chief Medical Officer(CMO), Tata Steel Hospital, Noamundi conducted awareness sessions at respective locations. 

Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS) at OMQ Division also organised a sensitization rally at block level in Joda and Noamundi with Camp school and Residential Bridge Course School children. Apart from these, informative sessions on “No Tobacco” was conducted for shop floor employees at Noamundi by Dr Amala Dhankar Chatterjee, Sr. Registrar & Doctor-In-Charge-OHS, Tata Steel Hospital, Noamundi.

Every year, “World No Tobacco Dayis observed around the world on May 31. It is intended to encourage a 24-hour period of abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption around the globe. This year’s theme focused on measures that the governments and public should take to promote health and development by confronting the global tobacco crisis.
