Tata Steel pays homage to JRD Tata on his 114th Birth Anniversary

Jamshedpur, July 29, 2018

Tata Steel paid homage to Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhai Tata on the occasion of his 114th Birth Anniversary today. Various events were held at different locations to commemorate the day.

  1. SONARI AIRPORT

As a mark of tribute, a short film on JRD Tata’s life and his passion for flying, showcasing the philosophy of the pioneering industrialist, was screened at Sonari Airport by Tata Steel's Aviation department. The special program also included an Aero-modeling show and static display of aircraft. The Chief Guest on the occasion, Mr Sunil Bhaskaran, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel paid homage to the legend.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Bhaskaran said; “JRD Tata made a huge difference to India. He was somebody who stood by his values. The success of the Tata Group is because of him. The Tata Group today has become an integral part of India’s Industrialization and also India’s growing global presence very much portraying and anchoring India’s growth in the economy.”

Various aircrafts and helicopters were exhibited during the event.

  1. SPORTS DEPARTMENT

The Sports department of Tata Steel organized a Cross Country race today for Jogga school children, Jusco and Project schools. Around 1400 children participated in the event.  Dr. Rajan Choudhary, GM, TMH, Ms. Durgesh Nandini, CDPO, Jamshedpur, Mr. Shatrughan Kumar Roy, Vice President ,TWU, was present on the occasion. Earlier an Inter School Archery Tournament took place at Archery Ground, JRD Tata Sports Complex on July 26, 2018. An event for school van drivers took place at Conference Room, JRD Tata Sports Complex on July 27, 2018. An Inter Departmental Badminton Tournament took place for the lady employees at Badminton Training Centre on July 28, 2018.

TATA STEEL ADVENTURE FOUNDATION  

TSAF today conducted a fun filled adventure game called ‘Adventure Quest’ for the citizens of Jamshedpur at Jubilee Park.  The event was about a mix of obstacle crossing, navigation & finding clues.

  • Kalinganagar: A two-day multi-speciality health camp was jointly organised by Tata Steel at Ostapal village in Danagadi block to mark the 114th birth anniversary of JRD Tata on 28th and 29th July.

  • Gopalpur: An inter-school athletic championship was held at Chamakhandi village in Gopalpur on 28th July. Over 100 students of 20 schools participated in it.
  • Sukinda: A football tournament of Under-10 boys was organised at the Central Playground at Sukinda Chromite Mine (SCM), Tata Steel, on 29th July.

  • Gomardih: An inter-high school football tournament was organised at Gomardih to mark the 114th birth anniversary of JRD Tata. 
  • West Bokaro: TSRDS organised a health check-up camp at Birhor Tola for the Birhor, one of the tribes categorised as particularly vulnerable tribal groups. Mr Mayank Sekhar, Chief Q-AB, TSL, WBD inaugurated the camp in presence of Mr. Sanjay Bhagal, Head, Q-AB and Col. Bhawani Singh Nirwan, Head, Admin. WBD.

  • Jamadoba: TSRDS Jamadoba distributed aids and appliances among Persons with Disabilities (PwD).

  1. Bharat Ratna JRD Tata Annual Inter School Quiz 2018

JRD Tata Annual Inter School Quiz 2018 took place at Michael John Auditorium, Jamshedpur on July 27, 2018. Leading Educationist Ms Archana Gupta, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.  Around 240 students from 30 schools of Jamshedpur participated in the competition.

  1. West Bokaro Division

On the occasion, homage was paid to JRD Tata at JRD Tata Training Centre, West Bokaro by Mr Sanjay Kumar Singh, General Manager (Coal), Tata Steel along with Mr Mohan Mahto, President, Rastriya Colliery Mazdoor Sangh (RCMS), Mr Sahabji Kuchroo, Chief Operations, Tata Steel (West Bokaro), Mr B V Sudhir Kumar, Chief, Coal Beneficiation, Tata Steel (West Bokaro), Mr Anand Kumar, Chief, Capacity Enhancement, Tata Steel (West Bokaro), Mr Kajal Hotal, Chief, Engineering Services, Tata Steel (West Bokaro) and Mr Tarik Anwar, Assistant Secretary, RCMS . Among others present on the occasion were officers, union representatives and employees of the Division. 

  1. Jharia Division

On the occasion, homage was paid to JRD Tata at General Manager’s office by Mr Sanak Ghosh, Chief- Operations, Jharia Division, Mr. Debashis Banerjee, Chief- HRM, Jharia, Mr. Saroj Banerjee, Chief- Engineering Services, Mr. Nakul Singh, Secretary, RCMS, Digwadih Colliery, Mr C S Yadav, Secretary, RCMS, Bhelatand Colliery, Officers, Union representatives and employees of the Division. 

On the occasion, ‘on the spot’ sketching competition was conducted, which generated great interest and participation from employees.
