Tata Steel Adventure Foundation felicitates Winners of 23rd National Sport Climbing Championship & Asian Kids Championship

Tata Steel Adventure Foundation today felicitated winners of 23rd National Sport Climbing Championship & Asian Kids Championship.

Aman Verma, 13-year-old has bagged 3 gold medals at National Championship in 2017. He represented India at Asian Kids championship in Singapore and achieved 3rd position in lead climbing, overall, he finished in 4th Position.

Some of the other who were felicitated today are:

  • Anisha Verma, 12-year-old has bagged a Gold Medal in Lead Climbing
  • Sangeeta Samad, a Tata Steel Employee received 3rd position at Open National Bouldering Championship at Indore.

Talim Ansari, 14-year-old, from Jamshedpur was the first kid from Jharkhand to win Bronze medal at National Sport Climbing Championship in 2016. In 2017, he bagged 1 Gold and 1 Silver. He also represented India at Asian youth championship in Iran.

It may be mentioned that the first artificial climbing wall was constructed in Delhi during early nineties and was sponsored by the house of Tatas. At JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur, TSAF is operating Sport Climbing training center where kids from the community undergo training. Results have been encouraging within a span of 2-3 years itself. More than 25 kids are training with TSAF under Coach Bibhas Roy.

Sport Climbing is a comparatively new and exhilarating addition to mountaineering, which has now attracted a huge following all over the world as well as in India. Sport climbing has 3 disciplines - Lead Climbing, Speed Climbing & Bouldering.
