Tata Steel organizes International Seminar on 'IRON & STEEL MAKING'

~Tata Steel joins hands with AIST to conduct international seminar on iron and steel making~

Tata Steel in association with the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST), a non-profit international organization is conducting a specialty training programme ‘International Steel Academy’ (ISA) on ‘Iron and Steel Making’ and ‘Steel Shaping and Treating’, beginning from today in at SNTI, Jamshedpur. The seminar is the first of its kind and is expecting a participation of more than 150 delegates from all over the world.

At the outset Mr Ron Ashburn, Executive Director, AIST explained about the motive and ideology of AIST. Mr Ashburn further elaborated on the course structure of MSTS201 and MSTS202. He further explained the relevance of the course to the Steel Industry and how it is related to the technological growth, equipment knowledge and its efficient utilization apt for available raw materials. In his concluding remarks, he thanked Dr Jurgen Cappel and Professor Bruno De Cooman who would shoulder the responsibility as instructors of this innovative training / curriculum for the next four days.

Special guest Mr G K Basak, Executive Secretary of Joint Plant Committee expressed the moment to be a ‘historical’ one. He explained the genesis of the course which took almost two years to materialize since it was conceptualized. Honourable chief guest, Mr ACR Das, Industrial Advisor to Ministry of Steel, India reiterated the event as being ‘historical’ and expressed his heartfelt feelings of elation at the actual materialization of the much awaited venture of Indian Steel Industry with AIST to conduct such a program. Mr Das spoke on the prevailing scenario of the Steel Industry in India and its growth dynamics and how the deliberations in the present seminar would be beneficial for the attendees. He expressed his sincere gratitude towards Tata Steel and Dr T Venugopalan, Chief Technology Officer, Tata Steel for providing proper assistance towards the success of the event.

On a lighter note Mr Anand Sen, Vice President TQM and Shared Services, Tata Steel, termed the program as the ‘World Premiere’ of such future seminars and said that the participants are fortunate to be a part of this event. Looking forward, Mr Sen mentioned that this endeavor should continue so that availability of technical expertise in the steel industry is ensured.

The program was convened by Dr Siddhartha Misra, Head TSCR Technology, TATA Steel and Chief Coordinator AIST (ISA) in the presence of Mr B N Mukhopadhyay, Deputy Secretary AIST IMC and Director AIST Board, and many other dignitaries.
