Tata Steel conferred Good Corporate Citizen Award by Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry

Tata Steel honoured for being an Exemplary Corporate Citizen by the oldest commercial body in Asia

Tata Steel was conferred the ‘Good Corporate Citizen Award’ for the year 2011 by Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCI) in a ceremony at Mumbai, yesterday as part its 176th Foundation Day. The award was presented to Tata Steel for its outstanding service to the civic community and contribution towards the betterment of the society in the Large Corporate Category. This is the first time that Tata Steel has won this prestigious award from BCCI.

The award was received by Mr Sanjiv Paul, Vice President (Corporate Services), Tata Steel Ltd., from Mr Deepak Parekh, Chairman, HDFC Ltd, who was the chief guest on the occasion, in presence of officials from Tata Steel and others.

Good Corporate Citizen Award was instituted by the Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry in 1994 to recognize and acknowledge outstanding corporate contribution in serving the civic community in addition to outstanding operational performance. Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry is in its 176th year and is the oldest chamber of commerce in Asia.

Accepting the award Mr. Sanjiv Paul said “We are proud to be a recipient of this prestigious recognition. Besides, reflecting our Values strongly, this award also gives us immense encouragement to work relentlessly with greater enthusiasm towards empowering and building stronger communities.”

Mr. Deepak Parekh, delivered the keynote address on the theme “Corporates as Citizens”. The address was followed by a panel discussion on ‘Roles, Rights and Obligations of Corporates as Citizens’ and the participants were eminent people from the industry.

Tata Steel has been recognized several times in the recent past for being an exemplary corporate citizen. In April this year, Tata Steel won the CSR Award given by the Procurement Leaders Forum. Finance Asia, a leading finance publication in Asia also conferred the Award for CSR to Tata Steel in April this year.
