Tata Steel's stall at Jharkhand pavilion visited by Deputy CMs on 'Jharkhand Day'

Jamshedpur, November 22, 2010

The Tata Steel stall at the Jharkhand Pavilion in IITF 2010 was visited by Deputy Chief Ministers of Jharkhand, Shri Hemant Soren and Shri Sudesh Mahato on Sunday, 21st November, 2010. Both ministers visited the stall on the eve of ‘Jharkhand Day’ observed at the pavilion.

During their visit, they took a round of the 11-panel gallery that depicts the inception and gradual growth of Tata Steel, its close touch with the city of Jamshedpur and future plans of the steel giant. Mr Sanjay Choudhry, Chief, Corporate Affairs & Communications and Mr Prabhat Sharma, Head, Corporate Affairs gave a vivid description of the gallery and various facets that make Tata Steel an exemplary steel making body.

Tata Steel’s rendezvous with the state of Jharkhand began more than a century ago when a team of archeologists assigned by the Company’s founder decided to build a steel plant at Sakchi, a place that shared proximity with the nearest raw material source as well as a splendid market in the East. More than merely making steel, the very inception of the Company was done with a vision in mind – that of ensuring growth of the people whose lives were touched by the Company. The panels therefore not only depict Tata Steel’s production unit but gives a larger picture of its relation with the community through CSR and sports. Besides, its panels also talk of Tata Steel’s single-minded determination to lower its carbon footprint and all its efforts, including a dynamic R&D team, that take place behind the scene.

Tata Steel’s social face as a nation builder also finds space in this stall; a role that Tata Steel has ably played for more than three decades now and is still carrying on through its ‘Tata Steel Rural Development Society’ (TSRDS). A number of empowerment projects in terms of income generation activities, education and other aspects such as health and hygiene, are ably depicted.
