Jagriti 'Yatris' at Jamshedpur receive a warm welcome at India's first industrial city

The Tata Jagriti Yatra 2009, an initiative by the Tata Group and Jagriti Sewa Sansthan, an NGO, halted at Jamshedpur today. The 400 ‘Yatris’ were given a warm welcome at Centre for Excellence.

Present on the occasion were Mr Om Narayan, Vice President (Shared Services), Mr Sanjay Wadhwani, Deputy British High Commission and others. The Yatris were familiarized with the need and the way to bring down energy consumption levels through an interactive presentation made by the Cape Farewell team. The ‘Cape Farewell Event cum Exhibition’ was organized by British Council.

A panel discussion on ‘Green Technologies, Renewable Energy: Opportunities for Entrepreneurs’ also took place where the panelists like Mr Prasad Menon, Mr Gyanesh Pandey, Mr. Shailendra Nath Sharan and Mandeep Singh deliberated on the current global climate change scenario and the role that industries need to play towards efficient energy utilization and conservation. The interactive question and answer session brought out some interesting and significant points that were relevant to the global climate change.

To provide a flavor of Jharkhand flavor, the ‘Yatris’ were entertained with a 'Chau' dance performance. The yatris, thereafter, were also taken on a visit to the Tata Steel Works. They left for their next destination – Deoria, the same evening.

This team of youngsters is a part of the eighteen day train journey that was flagged off in Mumbai on December 24, 2009 and will end on January 11, 2010 The aim of this Yatra is to awaken the spirit of entrepreneurship - both social and economic - within India's youth by exposing them to individuals and institutions that are developing unique solutions to India's challenges.

The Tata Jagriti Yatra 2009 train will travel across India covering over 8500 kms, halt at 13 different destinations including Thiruvananthpuram, Kanyakujmari, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Bhubaneshwar, Jamshedpur, Deoria and others. Across the route of Yatra, various social and business entrepreneurship models will be showcased; participants will interact with real heroes who have brought positive changes to India.

Jagriti is an organization run by Jagriti Sewa Sansthan and is headed by some eminent people, many of whom have been part of this journey previously. The Indian Railways have greatly cooperated with Jagriti, dedicating an entire train at the Yatra's disposal which has been fully equipped to hold discussions and debates, in addition to residential facilities.
