Jamshedpur, August 26, 2003

At the 29th National Competition for Young Managers (NCYM) conducted by All India Management Association, Tata Steel showed how winning is a way of life for the company. Tata Steel's Ms Malabika Chatterjee from the Customer Service Department, was adjudged as the Best Young Manager 2003 and in the team category, Ms. M Chatterjee, Ms. Anupama Priyadarshini from Strategy & Planning and Mr. Rajesh Dayal from Long Products (all from Tata Steel) were declared the 1st runners up amongst the 120 teams that competed. Ms. Chatterjee will be awarded the Saraogi Samarpan Foundation Award and the runners up team from Tata Steel will be awarded the Smithkline Beecham Trophy at the National Convention at the National Convention of AIMA to be held in New Delhi from the 15th to 17th September 2003. The theme for this year competition was " Winning Strategies in Turbulent Times".

Winning at this prestigious event has been a regular feature, with Tata Steel being adjudged the Champions in 1995 and 2002, and runners up in 1997 and 1999.

The NCYM provides a platform for an in-depth study of a theme by the upcoming professional managers. The current theme " Winning Strategies in Turbulent Times" recognises the advent of India as a global player and its inherent strengths. The theme is most apt in today's scenario where organisations need to leverage the strengths India has to offer and to draw strategies for building a sustainable edge in today's global marketplace.

Tata Steel's enthusiastic and regular participation is a reflection of the vibrant work environment in the company. It showcases the encouragement and freedom given to young executives in the organisation, to chart new courses and manage challenges in the steel industry during "Turbulent Times".
