Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jharkhand inaugurates Tata Steel’s new 80-bed COVID Care Centre in West Bokaro

~ The COVID Care Centre in Ramgarh district is equipped with piped oxygen beds ~

Tata Steel today opened a new 80-bed COVID Care Centre at Tata DAV School, Ghatotand, in West Bokaro. The Centre was virtually inaugurated by Shri Hemant Soren, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jharkhand in the presence of Shri Jayant Sinha, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Shri Banna Gupta, Hon’ble Health Minister, Government of Jharkhand and Shri Jai Prakash Bhai Patel, Hon’ble Member of the Legislative Assembly.

Shri Sandeep Singh, District Collector, Ramgarh; Shri Nagendra Kumar Sinha, DDC, Ramgarh; Smt. Keerthishree G, SDO, Ramgarh; Shri Jai Kumar Ram, CO, Mandu; and Shri Vinay Kumar, BDO, Mandu too graced the occasion. 

Manish Mishra, General Manager, West Bokaro, Tata Steel and Sourav Roy, Chief CSR, Tata Steel joined the inauguration virtually. Anurag Dixit, Chief Quarry SE, West Bokaro Division, Tata Steel; and P K Srivastava, Chief (Capacity Enhancement Project), West Bokaro Division, Tata Steel were also present during the inauguration event.

This COVID Care Center is equipped with four manifold facility where 16 jumbo oxygen cylinders can further be added. Tata Steel will also provide medicines, PPE kits, biomedical waste management as well as food for patients and basic facilities like cleaning and sanitization of the Center. The Centre also has three bio-toilets in its premises to ensure eco-friendly sanitation. The Center will also have wheel chair, stretchers and ambulance service for the patients, and an in-built COVID-19 testing facility.

Tata Steel has also provided a team of two doctors, 10 nursing and 10 cleaning staff to the Center. The Company will also depute three technically skilled staff to operate the machines at the Center. This Center also has capacity to expand in the future.

D B Sundara Ramam, Vice President (Raw Materials), Tata Steel, said, “Tata Steel has been working very closely with several government and non-governmental agencies across the country to undertake COVID relief work on a war footing.  The new 80-bed centre at Ghatotand in West Bokaro will also address the growing need for in-patient care in the Ramgarh district. We thank the government of Jharkhand and various government agencies who helped in setting up the new centre.”

Tata Steel is currently operating or managing 1600+ beds in its Company owned or managed hospitals across all its operating locations in Jharkhand and Odisha. These beds include COVID positive beds, COVID ICU beds and isolations beds. The Company is also performing COVID tests (RTPCR, TruNat, Antigen) on a daily basis across all its locations. Tata Steel has been vaccinating its healthcare workers and frontline workers since January 16 in all the Company owned hospitals at the operating locations.

Tata Steel is also supplying Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) daily to hospitals in various States (Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, Haryana and Delhi) through its manufacturing units in Jamshedpur, Kalinganagar and Dhenkanal.

Tata Steel Foundation has been at the forefront during the pandemic and has launched multiple initiatives to help the local communities in Jharkhand and Odisha. This COVID Care Centre is another major contribution from the Company toward it fight against the pandemic.
