TCIL Celebrates a Century of Serving the Nation as Torchbearer for Tinplate Industry

Starting as a joint venture between the erstwhile Tata Iron & Steel Company (TISCO) and Burmah Oil Company to cater to the tinplate shortage after the First World War, TCIL has grown steadily. The company today has a capacity of 379,000 metric tonnes with a pan-India presence and exporting a fourth of its products to discerning buyers in multiple geographies all over the world. TCIL is the market leader in the tinplate industry catering close to 40% of the domestic market. The company is also evaluating further growth options.
With increased awareness about the environment, health and the increasing need for sustainable packaging solutions, demand for tinplate is poised to grow faster than it grew in the last 100 years.
