Tata Steel Jamshedpur Run-a-thon 2019 Reinforces the Promise of a Healthier Tomorrow

Jamshedpur, November 10, 2019

Tata Steel today organised the sixth edition of Tata Steel Jamshedpur Run-a-thonat JRD Tata Sports Complex. More than 4500 participants participated in the run across 3 categories, representing 14 states across India. The event started from the Archery Ground, JRD Tata Sports Complex from 6:10 am onwards.

The 10-km and 7-km races were open to all (Indian Nationals only), while the 5-km run was for under-16 boys and girls. The 10-km race is the internationally approved distance for road races by International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

Tata Steel dignitaries present at the event were Mr T V Narendran, CEO & MD Tata Steel, Ms Ruchi Narendran, Mr Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President, Corporate Services and Mr Sudhanshu Pathak, VP Steel Manufacturing. Dr J J Irani, former MD, Tata Steel graced the occasion and congratulated the winners and participants of Run-a-thon 2019. Mr Neeraj Kant, MD ISWP, Mr Tarun Daga, MD, JUSCO, and other senior dignitaries of Tata Steel also were present on the occasion. Mr Piyush Pandey (IPS), SP Rural, Dr Ehtesham Waquarib (IPS), SP Rail Jamshedpur, Mr Manmohan Prasad, Executive Magistrate (East Singhbhum) and District Sports Officer also participated in the event along with other senior officials.

The winner of the 10-km (male) finished the race in 31 mins 18 secs whereas the winner of 10-km (female) finished the race in 37 mins 48 secs. The 7-km (male) winner finished the race in 22 mins 22 secs whereas the winner of 7-km (female) finished the race in 27 mins 29 secs. The 5 km (male) and 5-km (female) winners finished the race in 16 mins 22 secs and 20 mins 56 secs respectively.

It is worthwhile to mention that the winning timing clocked in the 10-km (male) category last year was 32 mins 04 secs while that for the 10-km (female) category was finished the race in 37 mins 54 secs.
