Odisha CM Shri Naveen Patnaik inaugurates Asia Steel 2018

Organized by Tata Steel Ltd and Indian Institute of Metals, the 3-day event will host Indian and International speakers on steel and related sectors

Asia Steel International Conference 2018, being organised by Tata Steel Ltd. and the Indian Institute of Metals, started today at Bhubaneswar, with the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha Shri Naveen Patnaik inaugurating the three-day long event.

“We welcome all the delegates to share their knowledge about the sector.” said Mr. Anand Sen, President, TQM & Steel Business, Tata Steel and the Chairman of Asia Steel 2018.

Dr. Aruna Sharma, Secretary, Ministry of Steel, Government of India, Mr. RK Sharma, Principal Secretary, Steel & Mines, Government of Odisha and Dr. Biswajit Basu, President of the Indian Institute of Metals were among the dignitaries present during the inaugural session of the conference.

Asia Steel Conference provides an opportunity to bring steel producers, researchers, academicians, equipment manufacturers and technology suppliers of the world on a common platform to share innovations in steel manufacturing technology.

The steel producing countries need to deliberate the issues and challenges on continual basis to ensure a sustainable future.

Asia has aptly taken the responsibility of holding this conference at regular interval.

This is the second time Asia Steel International Conference is being organised in India, under the aegis of Tata Steel and the Indian Institute of Metals. First time India hosted the conference (the second edition) was 15 years ago in 2003 at Jamshedpur.

This major conference is held every three years and attracts about 500 professionals from various countries and gives a platform for exchange of knowledge on various aspects of the steel industry. The last Asia Steel conference was held in 2015 at Yokohama, Japan.

Asia Steel International Conference is organised by The Iron and Steel Institute of Japan, The Chinese Society for Metals, The Korean Institute of Metals and Materials and The Indian Institute of Metals once every three years. Asia Steel 2018 will cover topics ranging from raw materials to steel products and its uses.

The Conference will run in seven parallel sessions between February 6 and February 8, 2018. There will be a total of 62 sessions and keynote speakers from India as well as from China, Korea, Japan, The Netherlands, the UK, US, Germany, Belgium and Canada will be sharing their knowledge during the three day conference.

Dr. Aruna Sharma, Secretary, Ministry of Steel, Government of India and Dr Hideki Murakami, Executive Officer, Head of Process Research Laboratories, Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation, Japan today were among the plenary session speakers today.

Topics like environment, water conservation, carbon footprint would be focus areas for discussions during the three-day deliberation.
