Ferro-Alloy & Minerals Division of Tata Steel bags the National Award for Excellence in Water Management
The Ferro Alloys & Minerals Division of Tata Steel has bagged the National Award for “Best Overall Excellence in Water Management” in the category of National Awards for Excellence in CSR & Sustainability. The award was given on the occasion of World CSR & Sustainability Day organised by the National CSR Leadership Congress & Awards at Bengaluru on September 5, 2018. Mr Prabhash Gokarn, Head (Engineering Projects & Town), FAMD, Tata Steel received the award on behalf of the Company.
The award is a testimony to initiatives taken by FAMD’s Sukinda Chromite Mine in particular and the Ferro Alloy & Minerals Division on the environment front. Through intelligent water management in the form of recycling of treated water from the Effluent Treatment Plant to the Water Treatment Plant and the reuse of treated water from the Waste Water Sewage Treatment Plant, Sukinda Chromite Mines has turned water positive. Rainwater harvesting has also been used to recharge the ground water both at Sukinda Chromite Mine and Bichakundi Manganese Mine - a big step towards water conservation. Engagement with IUCN has helped Tata Steel to implement comprehensive biodiversity management plans.
