4th edition of Tata Steel Bhubaneswar Half Marathon set to be even bigger

~To be held on 13th January 2019; Registration open till 30th December 2018; Cash awards worth Rs 8.64 lakh to be won~

Tata Steel, in association with the Government of Odisha’s Sports and Youth Services Department, will be organizing the 4th edition of Tata Steel Bhubaneswar Half Marathon-2019 on 13th January 2019.

The details of Tata Steel Bhubaneswar Half Marathon-2019 were announced during the launch ceremony in Bhubaneswar today. The event consists of three competitive races – 21 km (Half Marathon) for men and women of 18 years and above, 10 km for men and women of 15 years and above and 5 km for boys and girls between the age of 12 & 16 years. The highest prize money will be Rs 1 lakh to each of the winners in the Men and Women category of Half Marathon. Venue will be Kalinga Sports Complex, Bhubaneswar. Last date of registration through the official website www.tatasteelbbsr-run.com is 30th December 2018. However, there will be a maximum of 5000 registrations and enrolment will happen on a first come first serve basis.

The registration fees for Half Marathon is Rs 300, for 10 km Run is Rs 200 and for 5 km Run is Rs 100. All participants will be given participation T Shirts, BIB Chip and Number as well as refreshments.

State-of-the-art technology consisting of Timing Mats and its control units, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chips, split timing mats on route, tracking camera, wi-fi network on route as per international standard will be used to follow the world-class standards at the Tata Steel Bhubaneswar Half Marathon.

During the press conference, the official T-Shirt for the Tata Steel Bhubaneswar Half Marathon-2019 was unveiled by Shri Manoj Kumar Padhi, Joint Secretary, Department of Sports and Youth Services, Government of Odisha and Mr Arun Misra, Vice President, Raw Materials, Tata Steel along with other guests including noted Odia actress Ms Archita Sahu, Everest climber Ms Swarnalata Dalai, Mr Debashis Jena, Chief Resident Executive, Tata Steel and Arjuna Awardee Mr Bagicha Singh, Senior Coach, Athletics, Tata Steel.

“Bhubaneswar has become the sports capital of the country. The government of Odisha always supports such initiatives. I am sure that Tata Steel Bhubaneswar Half Marathon will be a mega event, which will inspire people of Odisha to keep themselves fit,” said Mr Padhi, Joint Secretary, Department of Sports and Youth Services, Government of Odisha.

“Sports is a way of life at Tata Steel. We believe in fitness. Running competitions like Bhubaneswar Half Marathon encourage an active sporting lifestyle. It is heartening to know that Bhubaneswar Half Marathon has been witnessing a growing number of participants each year. I am hopeful that this year too, we will see active participation from the citizens of Odisha,” said Mr Arun Misra, Vice President, Raw Materials, Tata Steel.

Bringing together the people of Bhubaneswar and beyond as they celebrate their love of running and sports, Tata Steel Bhubaneswar Half Marathon is organized every year in January to commemorate the National Youth Day. Launched in 2016, the Tata Steel Bhubaneswar Half Marathon seeks to catapult Bhubaneswar into becoming one of India’s premiere distance running destinations. With an aim to encourage an active sporting lifestyle, the Tata Steel Bhubaneswar Half Marathon has been witnessing a growing a number of participants each year.
