12th Jharkhand State Boxing Championship concludes at Tata Steel’s Noamundi Boxing Centre

  • More than 330 boxers from across Jharkhand participated
  • More than 50 female boxers from different boxing units participated and promoted the game of boxing.

 

With power packed performances and thrilling contests, the 12th Jharkhand State Boxing Championship concluded at Tata Steel’s Noamundi Boxing Centre (NBC). Mr Anand Sen, President, Jharkhand Boxing Association (JBA) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest along Mr Suresh Dutt Tripathi, Vice President, JBA, Mr Uttam Singh, General Secretary, JBA and Mr Manish Mishra, General Manager, Ore Mines & Quarries Division, Tata Steel.

In a 4-day high voltage boxing championship, more than 265 bouts took place. Suraj Soy of Tata Boxing Centre won the Best Boxer title in the Elite (Men) category and Sabina Khanam from East Singhbhum clinched the Best Boxer title in Elite (Women) category. Upcoming boxer Selay Soy from West Singhbhum stormed his to gold and was adjudged as Best Boxer in Youth (Men) category whereas Kartik Kumar of East Singhbhum emerged as Best Boxer in the Junior (Boys) category. Rahul Kumar from East Singhbhum and Rashmi Kumari from Urban Services won the Best Boxer title in Sub-Junior Boys and Girls category respectively.

East Singhbhum won the overall team award in Elite (Women), Junior (Boys) and Sub-Junior (Boys) categories and runner up award in Elite (Men) and Youth (Boys). On the other hand, Tata Boxing Centre won the overall team award in Elite (Men) and Youth (Men) categories and reminded runners in Elite (Women) and junior (Boys) categories.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sen said: “Jharkhand Boxing Association in collaboration with Tata Steel is doing great job of pervading boxing to these regions. I congratulate all who have come here and participated in this tournament. Kudos to NBC and Tata Steel for being a wonderful host. I believe next year this event will get even bigger and better.”

The tournament witness more than 330 boxers from 17 boxing units from the state. A total of 35 budding boxer from NBC participated in a state level championship for the first time. The event concluded with felicitation of JBA Officials and members of the organizing committee from Tata Steel.

Excited by the performance of young boxers, NBC senior coach Niraj Biruli said: “I am really happy that our hard work paid off. This tournament will give them a great boost. With budding boxers from Noamundi winning medals in a state level championship, exciting times for Noamundi Boxing Centre awaits young generation.”

Present on the occasion were, Mr J C Vyaas, Senior Technical Officer, JBA, Mr P K Dhall, Chief(P&L), OMQ, Tata Steel, Mr Dhirendra Kumar, Chief Medical Officer, Tata Steel Hospital, Noamundi, Mr Tulsidas Ganvir, Unit Head, TSRDS, Noamundi along with senior JBA officials.
