Tata Steel organises 'Process Safety Global Expo'17

Tata Steel inaugurated the Process Safety Global’17 Expo on May 2, 2017. Mr TV Narendran, Managing Director, Tata Steel - India and SEA graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event was organised at Steelennium Hall under the leadership of Mr B K Das, Vice President, Iron Making, Tata Steel and Chairman, Apex Process Safety & Disaster Management

Mr Narendran spoke about the status of process safety management in 2010 when he was Vice President, Safety & Flat Products, Tata Steel and said that the consequences of process safety incidents should not be underestimated. He further mentioned that in the age of digitalisation, more caution towards information flow is required as otherwise there is a risk of loss of the organisation’s reputation. He congratulated all the winners & appreciated the efforts of the Iron Making division.

Mr Das appreciated the maturity of process safety implementation at the Centre of Excellences (COEs) and mentioned several more departments are expected to become COEs in the near future.

The exposition, organised at a global level, received more than 200 best practices from across Tata Steel India, Tata Steel Thailand, Tata Steel Europe and from Tata Steel group companies such as Tata Metalliks, Tata Tinplate, Tata Sponge etc. 160 best practices were showcased in the exposition.

Each of the five COEs (LD #2, CRM, BPP, LD #1 & I Blast Furnace) had exclusive galleries to showcase their maturity in process safety implementation. To encourage and build higher levels of process safety engagement, eight best practices across the divisions and 3 new process safety COE teams were selected for reward and recognition.

Mr S K Hazra, Director, Green Fuel India Ltd and Ex-Managing Director, Aegies Logistics Ltd was the expert speaker at the exposition. He narrated the journey of process safety evolution at his former organisation where he had dealt with several major catastrophes in detail.

Mr S Alam, Vice President, Tata Workers’ Union emphasised the importance of process safety in the steel industry.

Tata Steel senior executives, Tata Workers’ Union senior leadership and safety professionals were present for the inauguration. The exposition will be open to all employees till May 3, 2017.
