'Tata Steel Scholars' meet organized

Jamshedpur, May 24, 2016

A `Tata Steel Scholars’ meet was organized today at Tribal Culture Centre, Sonari. Mrs Ruchi Narendran graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The meet witnessed a lively conversation between Mrs Narendran, a social activist, and a batch of 50 `Tata Steel Scholars’.

“You all should make an all-out effort to give back to society. You should always remember your roots and must look out for ways to make society better,” said Mrs. Ruchi addressing the scholars.Agriculture is one of the sectors that require socially active roles to be taken up, she added. The Tata Steel Scholars are academically bright, but poor SC/ST students whose professional studies are have been sponsored by Tata Steel.

Tata Steel Scholars shared their future aspirations with Mr. Sunil Bhaskaran, Vice President,Corporate Services, Tata Steel and other senior officials present at the event. Mr. Shio Kuma Singh, Chief, Capability Development, Tata Steel and Mr. Sumeet Dixit, Head, Talent Acquisition,Tata Steel apprised the students about promising opportunities that they can look forward to in Tata Steel. Scholars were also given interesting insights about Tata Steel’s operations and the company’s diverse workforce.

A session on communication skills was also conducted by Mr. Joseph Anthony Kujur, Senior Manager, HRM Legal and Compliance, Tata Steel. Mr. P.K. Wilson Purty, Chief, Business Excellence and New Projects, Tata Steel shared Tata Steel principles of fair practice, ethics and values with the scholars.

All the 50 Scholars, who are pursuing professional course from some of the country’s leading institutes like IIT, NIT, etc, will attend a Moral Re-Armament camp from May 25th – 27th , 2016 in Jamshedpur.

Tata Steel’s Tribal Cultural Society (TCS) announced that forms for Tata Steel Scholars Program are out and the same can be availed from its office. TCS also announced the release of Jyoti Fellowship School-level forms, which are also available at its office. Jyoti Fellowship’s entrance merit test for Class 7 will be conducted on July 24, 2016.
