SAFE-Tata Steel organizes Inter-School Documentary Film Competition on Road Safety

Jamshedpur, January 31, 2012

In an effort to reiterate the importance of safety amongst the youth of Jamshedpur, SAFE and the Ergonomics and Safety Department of Tata Steel organised an inter-school Documentary film competition at the SNTI Auditorium. The function was attended by more than 200 students and teachers from various schools, along with members of the SAFE Core Committee.

SAFE believes, in order to influence behaviour, it is essential to engage the children at an emotional level on the consequences of an accident- its impact on their own lives and the lives of people around them. With this objective in mind, a documentary film competition was organised. 17 schools participated in this competition and entries were judged by a panel of judges from the field of film making, creative writing and Safety Department, Tata Steel.

Addressing the gathering, honourable chief guest, Mrs Surekha Nerurkar, Chairperson SAFE highlighted the importance of safety in our daily lives. Mrs Ruchi Narendran, Co-Chairperson, SAFE, explained the objective behind the competition. Mrs Dipy Grewal, parent of a child lost in a road accident, made an impassioned appeal to all students to follow traffic rules because their lives are precious. Mr VN Gaikwad also appreciated the efforts taken by SAFE and expressed concern over Tata Steel’s commitments for such causes.

The function was conducted by Mrs Chandra Sharan, Convenor, SAFE and Mrs Aloka Bakshi gave the vote of thanks. The panel of Judges included Shri Hari Mittal and Shri Jainandan. In the past SAFE has held several initiatives like Quiz, Poster making, Slogan writing, Kite flying and Nukkad Nataks to create awareness amongst students on Road Safety.
