~TCS hosts Adivasi Nritya and Sangeet Karyakram~

The traditional culture in Jharkhand is quite vast and varied with its unique ways and means. In order to promote this rich culture and to commemorate the 136th birth anniversary of the great hero, Birsa Munda, Tribal Culture Society organized a cultural programme Adivasi Nritya and Sangeet Karyakram, today, at Jaipal Singh Stadium, Karandih.

The event showcased the talent of thirteen teams hailing from the various states of Jharkhand and Orissa. They made the occasion vibrant with their unique performance of dance and music. Unique dance forms like Mardana Jhumar, Ho, Dantha, Mundari, Damkatch, Baha, Oraon, Sarfa, Janana Jhumar, Karam, Kharia, Paiki was performed at the event. It was well proved by the performers that the tribal culture displays a lot of power, joy, vibrancy and enthusiasm. Mastering these tribal dances is quite challenging and the dancers must have practiced extensively to perfect the movement.

Jharkhand has a rich tapestry of tribal culture which finds manifestation not only in the language, customs, traditions and cuisines but also in the dance forms prevalent in the state. There are 32 different tribes in Jharkhand, each having its unique culture and dance form. Dance has been a means of entertainment for the tribal since ancient days and it gradually became an integral component of their lifestyle and culture. However, very few people know about the different tribal dance forms of Jharkhand. Tribal Cultural Society, which aims at preservation and promotion of tribal culture and heritage, endeavored to promote tribal and ethnic dance forms through this cultural program.

Honourable dignitaries such as chief guest Mrs Menka Sardar, MLA , Potka; guest of honour Mr Sanjiv Paul, Vice President (Corporate Services),Tata Steel; Mr Giridhari Lal Gounju, HOD, Ho language, Ranchi University, honoured the occasion with their graceful presence. Mrs Menka Sardar said, “Jharkhand has an impressive portion of the tribal population and Tata Steel must keep endeavoring to promote such ethnic and rich talent as it has always done in the past.” Mr Sanjiv Paul reiterated his commitments to preserve the ethnic culture and tradition of Jharkhand in line with the customs and policies of Tata Steel
