National Archery Meet at Digwadih Stadium concludes
~ Team Assam bags the top position and Team Jharkhand as Runners - Up at the Tata Steel hosted four-day event ~
The four-day spectacular meet – 31st Sub-Junior National Archery Championship – concluded today, amidst lots of cheers from India’s budding archery talents who had congregated at one of the most prominent sports venues of Jharkhand – Digwadih stadium, Jharia, Tata Steel. Team Assam emerged overall champions of the Show, followed by Team Jharkhand as the first runners-up. Andhra Pradesh bagged the third spot.
The teams were felicitated by Mr Satish Puri, Director General Mines Safety (DGMS) Dhanbad, and chief guest and Mr Sunil Kumar Barnwal, Deputy Commissioner, Dhanbad and guest of honour on the occasion. The Championship, this year, recorded an overwhelming presence of 424 participants from 25 states across the country; with all of them being in the age group of upto 16 years.
To add glitz to the show was ace archer and winner of 2010 Asian Games Medal Winner, Mr Jayant Talukdar, whose presence was a source of inspiration to the participants. Earlier on, the inauguration of the event was graced by the presence of Deepika Kumari. The event included an archery demonstration by the top archers of the championship including participants from the Jharkhand and Steel Plant Sports Board (SPSB) teams; lowering of the Archery Association of India (AAI) flag by chief guest, prominent amongst other ceremonies.
It is worth mentioning here that Tata Steel was chosen as partner to host this programme along with Steel Plant Sports Board (SPSB) by Archery Association of India (AAI), thereby adding another feat to co’s sporting history.
Also present on the occasion were Mr Ch Divaker, General Manager (Jharia Divn), Tata Steel; Mrs Latha Divaker & Mrs Sarita Puri; Mr R S Nehra, Joint Secretary, AAI; Mr S S Zama, Regional President, RCMS, Jharia; Mr.Santosh Mahato, Regional Secretary, RCMS, Jharia; other officials and union leaders of Tata Steel, representatives of AAI and SPSB and others.
