J N Tata fondly remembered by Tata Steel on his Birth Anniversary

~ Grandeur and vibrancy marks 172nd birth anniversary of J N Tata at Tata Steel ~

Employees and senior management and Union office bearers ofTata Steel and other Tata Group companies based at Jamshedpur gathered today to celebrate the 172nd birth anniversary of their Founder-Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata amidst much enthusiasm.

The morning of 3rd March saw an august gathering of dignitaries and honorary guests from across the Tata Group at the Tata Steel Works Main Gate. All departments of Tata Steel and other Tata Group companies paid tribute to the Founder by staging a parade; each team being led by its senior most designate, at the Founder’s statue.

The function was attended by Mr Ratan N Tata, Chairman, Tata Sons, Mr Ishaat Hussain, Director, Tata Sons, Dr J J Irani, Director, Tata Sons, Mr B Muthuraman, Vice Chairman, Tata Steel, Mr H M Nerurkar, Managing Director, Tata Steel, Mr Andrew Robb, Chairman, Tata Steel Europe and Director, Tata Steel Limited, Dr Karl Ulrich Koehler, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Tata Steel Europe, and other senior officials of Tata Steel. Also present on the occasion were Mr Raghunath Pandey, President, Tata Workers’ Union, Mr Rakeshwar Pandey, President, Tata Mazdoor Union, Mr Rajendra Singh, President, INTUC, Jharkhand and other union office bearers from across Tata Steel’s operations.

The dignitaries present paid tribute before the statue of J N Tata. Colourful tableaus depicting the work process of various departments preceded each of their processions, respectively. For example, the Corporate Services float included Tata Steel’s intervention in sports to make it more of a means to secure empowerment than a mere mode of entertainment for the youth. Accordingly, leading sportspersons like Deepika Kumari, Jayant Talukdar and Saurabh Tiwary formed an essential part of the floats. With the support of the citizens of Jamshedpur and local administration, a spectacular pageantry was organised which included tableaus from associate companies, social organizations, JAP and RAF and was actively participated by 2000 people approximately. The pageantry was flagged off by Mr Ratan N Tata, Chairman, Tata Sons in front of the Founder’s Statue near General Post Office, Bistupur. In his address to the gathering, Mr Tata lauded the citizens of Jamshedpur for having made a great contribution towards making this city one of the most cherished places to live in.

An exhibition on the Founder and Tata Steel’s approach to manufacturing steel in an environment friendly way, aptly titled, “Green Steel, Green Earth”, was unveiled today by Mr Andrew Robb at Jubilee Park. The exhibition was Tata Steel's effort and approach to the steel plant as well as the town and community for environmental protection.

The final rounds of the Founder’s Day sporting events as organised by the Company’s Sports division took place at Gopal Maidan. The event encouraged all other divisions of the company celebrate the Founder’s Day with the citizens, children and communities settled in Jamshedpur and the neighbouring areas.
