Tata Steel Celebrates Odia New Year's Day 1000 villagers from 100 periphery villages participate in Keonjhar and Jajpur

Bhubaneswar, April 14, 2010

Tata Steel celebrated the Odia New Year Day and Maha Bisubha Milan by hosting several programmes at Joda in Keonjhar district and Duburi in Jajpur on 14th April 2010 with much enthusiasm and gaiety. More than 1000 villagers from 100 periphery villagers from both the districts participated in the function. As part of the celebration various events like debate, essay writing, drawing, rangoli and tribal dance were conducted for three days prior to the main function on 14th April 2010.

This year's new addition for Duburi in Jajpur were the finals of Pragati Inter-village football tournament and Tejaswini SHG competition for the ladies. Around 65 villages of Jajpur district participated in the Inter-Village Pragati football tournament that was initiated six months back. Similarly more than 1000 ladies participated in the Tejaswini Inter SHG competition which also continued for six months. While the Pragati football tournament was meant to identify rural football talents for future training, the Inter SHG Tejaswini Competition was organized for empowering the women at the grass root level to achieve greater heights.

Mr Hrideyswar Jha, Vice President (Orissa Project) graced the function at Dubiri as Chief Guest. While addressing the gathering he reaffirmed the commitment of Tata Steel in developing and empowering the periphery communities. He also thanked the local populace for extending their support in establishing a world class Steel Plant in Kalinga Nagar by Tata Steel. The Oriya new year day celebrations at Joda was graced by famous Vedic litterateur Pandit Dhirendranath Panda in presence of Mr Shailesh Verma, Chief (Joda).

The guests distributed prizes amongst the winners in Duburi and Joda for the competitons organized on the occasion.
