Tata Steel to Provide Advance Training to LNK Ms Saraswati Chand

~The training will be of international standards at Tata Athletic Academy~

As part of its tradition to promote sports in the State of Orissa, Tata Steel will provide intensive advance training of international standard to LNK Ms Saraswati Chand at Tata Atheletic Academy (TAA) at Jamshedpur. Ms Chand from Jajpur district will be provided training free of cost at TAA for a period of three months. Other facilities that will be provided to her during her stay at TAA includes, lodging and boarding at Tata Sports Hostel, medical facility at Tata Main Hospital, Sports kit for her training and travel expense free of cost.

Ms Chand has secured two gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze medal in the Thirteenth World Police and Fire Games' 2009 held at British Columbia, Canada from July 31 to August 9, 2009. She is to start her training at Tata Athletic Academy (TAA) from September 15, 2009.

The basic objective of Tata Athletics Academy is to provide the mainstream of national athletics with a perennial pool of young athletes trained and oriented to international standards. The strategy is to "Catch Them Young" to give them the best in terms of training with modern techniques, tactics, psychological, physical conditioning and related inputs to make them medal winners in the International arena. The Academy not only provides intensive training but also all-round developmental activities to prepare the cadet to be self reliant and confident in today's society. Besides technical training, training on personality development is also imparted. With the modern facilities, free education and medical care makes this academy truly a home away from home.

Some of the achievements that has brought laurel to TAA are, Gold Medal in Asian Grand Prix 2007, Gold Medal in Sr. Asian Athletics Championship 2007, Bronze Medal in Doha Asian Games 2006, 9 Gold, 5 Silver and 5 Bronze Medals in East Zone Athletics Championship and many more.

The Company is sure that with the rigorous and scientific training at the TAA, Ms Chand will bring many such glories to the State of Orissa and also be a source of inspiration for the women of Orissa.
