Mobile Medical Units set out to provide healthcare services

Tata Steel today rolled out three mobile medical units (MMUs) from Tata Main Hospital campus. This is with regards to the Memorandum of Understanding that the Company had signed with the Government of Jharkhand.

The MMUs were flagged off by Mr Partha Sengupta, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel. Dr. Swarn Singh, Nodal Officer for Swine Flu, represented the Government Health Department on the occasion. Several doctors from Tata Main Hospital and officials from Corporate Sustainability Services were present on the occasion.

The MoU was signed on 10th July 2009 with the Secretary, Health, Government of Jharkhand and TSRDS. It is an effort by both Tata Steel and Government of Jharkhand to reach out medical aid to the remotest corners of the State through five MMUs, which otherwise are bereft of adequate treatment and healthcare. The Mobile Medical Units based on Public Private Partnership Model, whereby, both the parties can avail its facilities to treat the people as and when required.

On the occasion, Mr Partha Sengupta said, “This is indeed a great opportunity for Tata Steel to aid those people who are in need of medical assistance. These units together will ensure that medical aid reaches all villages in the State of Jharkhand.”

Each of these units, equipped with X-ray machine, Auto Analyzer, Sonography machine and other state-of-the-art facilities. Three MMUs, functional from the first week of August, will operate in Saraikela-Kharsawan, Dhanbad and Hazaribagh districts, while two units will operate in East Singhbhum district.
