The company management then took a prompt note of the local MLA’s concern and subsequently came forward to help the villagers.

Following the assessment carried out at Dantha, Jaher and Bargarhi villages of Mandar block, the team with active support from the local administration, distributed about 1500 tarpaulin sheets amongst the people. The distribution took place at a function which was attended by Mr Birsa Oraon, Additional Collector, Mr Surya Prakash, BDO and Mr Om Prakash Yadav, Circle Officer of Mandar block, as well as senior company officials. The Jharkhand Janadhikar Manch Central Secretary, Mohd Islam and eminent person of the area, Prof Arif Hassan, was also present on the occasion.

A few years later, in November 1974, the Jamshedpur based Tata Relief Committee (East) was incorporated.

Spearheaded by Tata Steel, the Tata Relief Committee (East) also includes Tata Steel's sister concerns, associate companies and Jamshedpur industries. It has steadfastly brought "sunshine" to the lives of the distressed in eastern India (especially Orissa) by mobilising resources for their service. The object of TRC is to render help to those affected by flood, drought and other natural calamities by offering them food, medical aid, rehabilitation etc.
