~Founder’s Day celebrated with grandeur and fervour ~

Employees and senior management of Tata Steel and other Tata companies gathered today to celebrate the 170th birth anniversary of its Founder – Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata with fervour and gaiety. J N Tata was a patriot and an entrepreneur who, against all odds had the zeal and perseverance to dream about empowering India industrially and economically even before the country was independent from foreign rule. The unparalleled legend, committed to the cause of industrializing India was remembered today by Tata Steel and Jamshedpur amidst fanfare.

The morning of 3rd March saw an august gathering of dignitaries and honorary guests from across the Tata Steel Group. To commemorate the Founder’s 170th Birth Anniversary, there was a parade and homage paying ceremony organised at Tata Steel Works Main Gate. The function was attended by Mr. Sam Palia, Director, Tata Steel, Mr. Syamal Gupta, Director, Tata Sons, Mr. Ishaat Hussain, Director, Tata Sons, Dr. J J Irani, Director, Tata Sons, Mr. Philippe Varin, CEO Corus, Mr. S Ramadorai, CEO and Managing Director, Tata Consultancy Services, Mr. Noel Tata, Managing Director, Trent Limited, Mr. Oo Soon Hee, Director, South East Asian Operations, Tata Steel, Dr. T Mukherjee, Director, Tata Steel, Mr. B Muthuraman, Managing Director, Tata Steel, Mr. H M Nerurkar, Chief Operating Officer, Tata Steel and other senior officials of Tata Steel. Also present on the occasion to pay their respects to the Founder was Mr. Raghunath Pandey, President Tata Workers Union, Rakeshwar Pandey, President Tata Mazdoor Union and other office bearers of the Unions from across Tata Steel operations and Raw Material Divisions.

The guests present paid homage to the statue of J N Tata in the Tata Steel Works and this was followed by an array of colourful display of floats by various departments and divisions of Tata Steel. The procession showcased the innovations and expertise based on the theme of ‘Commitment to Value Creation’ through the floats.

This was followed by a tribute to J N Tata’s statue in the city of Jamshedpur by the citizens of Jamshedpur. In addition to this, a Weight lifting Centre was inaugurated at JRD Complex by Dr J J Irani, Director, Tata Sons, a Boxing Centre was inaugurated at Keenan Stadium by Mr Ishaat Hussain, Director, Tata Sons, while Mr. Philippe Varin, CEO Corus, inaugurated a Football Training Centre at Gopal Maidan. A series of sporting events were organised across all departments to celebrate the Founder’s Day with the citizens, children and communities settled in Jamshedpur and the neighbouring areas.
