Tata Steel which believes in sports being a way of life handed over a bus to Usha School of Athletics at a function held here today. This initiative by Tata Steel is aimed at promoting sportsmanship and nurturing sporting talent. The keys of the bus were handed over to veteran athlete P T Usha by Mr. Partha Sengupta, Vice President (Corporate Services), Tata Steel at a function held at Taj Residency. Some of the former sports stars Mercy Kuttan, TC Yohannan, Suresh Babu, Murli Kuttan, MA Azeer, Abraham Mathew, Satish Kumar, Satish Dutt and Ravi Kumar were also honoured at the function for their contribution in the field of sports.

This 32-seater bus has been dedicated to the athletes of Usha School of Athletics. The academy was started by P T Usha in Kozhikode with a vision of nurturing potential athletes in the country. Sports, has been an integral part of Tata Steel also and this was an opportunity for the Company to show its allegiance towards sports. This is over and above the various efforts it has undertaken to promote sports not only among players but also raw talent and potential sportsmen through its numerous academies and coaching centres.

“Sports has always been an integral part of Tatas way of life. Tatas through generations has enriched sports especially athletics. We are thankful for this generous gesture by Tata Steel”, said P T Usha on accepting the keys of the bus.
