Jharkhand Honours Tata Steel Sports Persons

The Government of Jharkhand has introduced a Cash award scheme for the International/National Medal winners since December 2005 which has been a great motivation for all the sportsperson. As a part of this, Deputy Chief Minister, Sri. Sudhir Mahato gave away over 30.5 lakhs to the sportspersons from/representing Tata Steel for their achievements in Archery, Handball and Boxing. Also present on the occasion was Mr. Partha Sengupta, Vice President – Tata Steel. The proud winners in the various fields walked up to receive their cash prizes by Deputy CM of Jharkhand.

Speaking on the occasion, Sri. Mahato said, “Apart from being called the Industrial Capital of Jharkhand, Jamshedpur is also considered as the Sports capital of the state. Tata Steel’s efforts in the area of sports are exemplary and we are willing to support Tata Steel in all its attempts to promote sports in the state. We will ensure that events are held at Jamshedpur for the National Games and also the Sports Hostel and Indoor stadium comes up.” He was all praises for the Tata Archery Academy cadets Dola Bannerjee who became the World Champion at the 4th World Archery Cup held at Dubai from 20th to 24th Nov'07 and of the World record of the TAA cadets Adonda Raju, Rajib Basumatary and Ravindhar Hembram at the 3rd Cadet World Archery Championship held at Mexico from 15th to 22nd Oct'06 in the Team Finals (i.e- Semi final & Final - 2 X 24 arrows).

Mr. Partha Sengupta, VP (CS) – Tata Steel, stressed on the Company’s determination to promote sports in out locations and the Greenfield project sites.

Tata Steel has always encouraged its employees to take on professional exams to further their career. As part of the program, Tata Steel for the first time, conducted the AFC 'B' License Course for football Coaches in Jamshedpur where 23 Coaches from various States participated and successful candidates will be awarded the Certificate by the Asian Football Confederation.

Mr. Ahmad Sanjari from Iran had been nominated as the main faculty member to conduct the course. He was supported by Dr. D.P. Singh, Dr. Fakre Ibrahim of TFA Dr. Dinesh Upadhayaya Ex. TMH Doctor and Dr. Ms. Debolina of TMH. Sports Department of Tata Steel provided all the infrastructure support. As a part of the training, Mr. Ansari interacted with TFA cadets and gave them valuable inputs. He was all praise for the facilities of the Tata Steel and what it was doing for the Indian Sport. He stressed on the importance of training at a young age for footballers.
