Tata Steel to construct Sports Complex at Keonjhar

Jamshedpur, December 12, 2006

The foundation stone of the Sports Complex at Shankarpur, Keonjhar was laid today by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Orissa Shri Naveen Patnaik in the presence of Hon’ble Minister for Industry, Rural Development and Law, Shri Biswa Bhushan Harichandan, Hon’ble Minister for Finance, Shri Prafulla Chandra Ghadai, Hon’ble Minister for Steel and Mines, Planning and Coordination, Shri Padmanava Behera, Hon’ble Minister for Urban Development and Public Enterprises, Shri K V Singh Deo, Hon’ble Minister for Information and Public Relations, Sports and Youth Services, Shri Debasis Nayak, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Keonjhar, Shri Mohan Majhi, Dy Chief Whip and Shri H M Nerurkar, Vice-President, Tata Steel along with many senior officials of the Government and the Company. Tata Steel would be investing of Rs 5.0 crores to build the sports complex.

Tata Steel has always held Sports as an integral part for improving quality of life. The Founder, Jamsetji Tata had directed his son Dorabji Tata to "be sure there is plenty of space for lawns and gardens. Reserves large areas for football, hockey..." With the construction of this sports complex, Tata Steel has taken one more significant step in its 100 years old relationship with the state of Orissa - “Tata Steel and Orissa, Partners in Progress”.

While speaking on the occasion, the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri Naveen Pattnaik thanked the steel complex for constructing this sports complex in Keonjhar. This sports complex is one of the cherished desire of the people of Keonjhar, which will facilitate the upcoming sports talent of Keonjhar and Orissa.
