Tata Steel surpassed its Best ever Works saleable steel production.

Tata Steel has surpassed yet again another best ever performance. Earlier this month on 14th, the record of best ever hot metal production of 4.47 MT in Fy04 was surpassed and on 24th February, Tata Steel surpassed the previous best crude steel production of 4.22 MT, also set in Fy04. Now, the best ever saleable steel production of 4.11 MT in Fy05 has been surpassed on 2nd March. This feat was achieved with increased finished steel production, from the upgraded Hot Strip Mill and recently commissioned New Bar Mill under 1 MT expansion programme. All major facilities of 1 MT expansion project like revamping of ‘G’ Blast Furnace, upgradation of various facilities at Steel Melting Shops, Reheating furnaces of Hot Strip Mill and commissioning of a 0.6 MT New Bar Mill have started yielding benefits.

Tata Steel is continuously marching towards becoming a global steel enterprise. It is in the process of investing in the 1.7 MT capacity Millennium Steel in Thailand. On completion of the investment, Tata Steel’s total steel making capacity will become 8.7 MT. This will also include 5 MT at Jamshedpur, 2 MT at Natsteel in Singapore. The company is in the process of further expanding its capacity at Jamshedpur to 6.8 MT and putting up new green field steel plants at Kalinganagar, Chhatisgarh, Jharkhand. It is also planning steel projects in Bangladesh and Iran.
