Tata Steel Blast Furnace Relined and Charged in Record Time

Blast Furnace # E at Tata Steel works was relit by Dr. T. Mukherjee, its Executive Director-Operations at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, 29th January 2001, after it was relined in record time.

This furnace was put down for relining on December 12th, 2000. The shut down which normally takes 60 days to complete, was planned for a period of 56 days only. The entire rebuilding work was completed in a record time of 48 days. The furnace was charged and blown on the 49th day. During this relining process, the furnace was equipped with an auto-charging and a process monitoring systems.

 At a small function to facilitate the team at the Blast Furnace, Dr. Mukherjee congratulated the group for its teamwork and its sense of achievement in meeting the challenge in a record time schedule. More important, was the achievement of the entire job being done free of accidents during the period. Mr. R.B.B. Singh, Dy. President, Tata Workers Union Complimented the Blast Furnace team and the management for providing high class amenities to the workers to achieve this record. Mr. H.S. Sandhu, Dy. General Manager-Coke, Iron Making & Energy Management, Tata Steel observed that the assignment was completed within the stipulated budget. Mr. A.S. Dhillon, Sr. General Manager-Works, Tata Steel extended his whole hearted congratulations to the entire team within and outside the Blast Furnace Department who enabled in getting this job done in record time.
