1. Definitions:
   1. ‘Company' shall mean Tata Steel Limited (which includes its holding and subsidiary companies, respective officers, directors, employees, and agents).
   2. ‘Event’ shall mean the TomorrowLAB Season 3.
   3. ‘Idea' shall mean including but not limited to business plans, business models, designs,drawings, formulas, unregistered intellectual property etc. which is shared, presented,and/or submitted by the Teams during the Event and any other idea shared by a Team during the Event.
   4. Team' shall mean group of 3 individuals who have registered for the Event as one entity.
2. The members of the Teams, individually and collectively, covenant that:
   1. They shall abide by the rules and guidelines of the Event (Accessible at https://www.tatasteel.com/careers/campus-connect/tomorrowlab/).
   2. They will treat all decisions of the Company in relation to the Event as final and that they will have no right to challenge such decisions of the Company.
   3. The Ideas shared by them are novel in as much as they are not identical/similar to business plans, business models, designs, drawings, formulas, unregistered intellectual property etc.of any third party.
   4. They shall not raise any claim and/or demand to the Company in case the Company decides to commercially adopt and/or otherwise utilize the Idea presented by them during the Event.
   5. They shall have no control in the manner in which the ldea is commercially adopted and/or otherwise, utilised (if at all) by the Company.
   6. They understand that the commercial adoption and utilisation of the Ideas by the Company shall not be treated as an express or implied offer for employment.
   7. They shall not object to any application filed by the Company before any governmental authority and/or any other body and/or platform for registering and/or publicizing and/or commercially exploiting and/or otherwise using the Idea (either in its original form or modified form).
   8. They shall not have any claims over the profits (if any) generated by the Company by commercially adopting and/or otherwise utilising the Idea.
   9. They shall not pose as business partners, advisors, associates of the Company and shall not make any public statements on behalf of the Company.
   10. They shall indemnify, defend and hold the Company harmless from and against any and all claims, costs (including but not limited to legal costs, liabilities, lawsuits, orders and judgements) suffered, threats of lawsuits or other governmental action, or direct and indirect losses suffered, incurred or sustained by reason of any claim or proceeding arising out of or resulting from, including but not limited to -
       1. inaccuracy in the details provided in this Consent form.
       2. breach of any covenant mentioned herein by the Team.
       3. any actual or alleged infringement of any intellectual property rights of a third party by the Company as a result of the adoption and/or utilization of the ldea.
       4. any violation of license with respect to the usage of the intellectual property rights/know-how/technical information shared by the Teams with the Company.

Competition Rounds and Timelines

Round 1 – PLAN

TATA Steel TomorrowLAB 2023 has 8 themes out of which registered teams need to select one topic of their choice to work upon and submit their business idea /proposal in maximum of 7 slides.

Timelines – 16^th Nov’ 23 (00:01 AM IST) – 3^rd Dec’ 23 (11:59 PM IST)

Round 2 – PITCH

Shortlisted 10 teams will get a comprehensive mentorship on innovation management and guidance on developing a deeper, sharper, and impactful pitch. The teams will have to expand on their ideas and build a comprehensive and nuanced strategy with the implementation roadmap. Deliverables include sharing a presentation (of up to 10 slides) along with supporting multimedia/prototypes/research data, if any.

Timelines – Will be communicated to the shortlisted candidates.

Round 3 – PERFORM (National Finale)

3 teams will qualify for National finals (Round 3) with an opportunity to present their ideas to the Senior Leadership team of TATA Steel.

Eligibility & Evaluation Criteria

Eligibility Criteria:

• TomorrowLAB 2023 is open to all students from B.Tech, M.Tech and MBA irrespective of their specialization and year of study.
• Students of 1-year full time MBA (PGPX) programs are also eligible to participate
• Participants should be active full-time students from any campus

Submission Guidelines

Round 1

• Registered teams need to select any theme (multiple themes can be selected, worked upon, and submitted in separate files) out of below 8 problem statements. Identify whitespace, need gap, customer pain points, market size, value proposition, business potential (min INR 1,000 Cr at 20-30% market share) for the selected theme.
  • Space Utilization

  With the ever-increasing need for expansive living, there is a demand for innovative solutions for space utilization. We are looking for product solutions to unlock the hidden potential of dead spaces in households and offices by utilization of overlooked and unused areas to enhance efficiency and accessibility, increasing convenience for the user.

  • Social Inclusion

  Social Inclusivity in Public Spaces ensures that people of all backgrounds, abilities and ages feel comfortable and empowered to access them. We are looking for innovative solutions enabling public space accessibility for the differentially abled people by retrofitting existing infrastructure in line with the Universal Accessibility Code (Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016).

  • In-home Comfort

  In home comfort refers to various aspects which contribute to enhancement of overall wellbeing at home such as air purification, HVAC, etc. We are looking for innovative product solutions targeting comfort in homes for both existing as well as new construction (excluding existing solutions available in the market).

  • Water Innovation

  To address pressing global challenges related to water resources, ensuring the sustainable management of this vital resource for years to come, focus is on innovative product solutions for driving resilience across supply chain and ecosystems to re-energize water security at community level.

  • Advancing towards Net Zero Buildings

  Achieving net zero in commercial buildings such as offices, hospitals, etc. is a complex endeavor, requiring a combination of strategies and commitment to sustainability. It not only reduces greenhouse gas emissions but could also potentially lead to long-term cost savings. Thus, Innovative, and sustainable solutions for commercial buildings - for both existing and new establishments have become the need of the hour.

  • Urban Waste to Wealth

  India faces significant challenges related to urban waste management due to the rapidly increasing urban population. This holds great potential for economic and environmental benefits. We are looking to transform urban waste management space into business opportunity through innovative solutions around waste from homes and offices such as solid waste, CnD waste, etc. (excluding E-Waste).

  • Rurban Housing and Infrastructure

  Rurban mass housing and infrastructure is a critical component of sustainable and inclusive development of the country. This contributes to addressing issues of housing shortage, better living conditions, reduction in urban migration and enhancement of overall quality of life for citizens. Thus, there is an urgent need for ingenious solutions for safe, secure, and affordable housing and infrastructure such as social shelters, homes, medical centers, retail, skill development centers, etc. for rural, semi-urban communities.

  • Rural Livelihood and Productivity

  The aspirational rural citizen's livelihoods are complex, influenced by a combination of factors and often require a multi-dimensional approach to enhance their earning potential. There is huge potential for innovative product-based solutions to boost rural economy with focus on areas like agriculture value chain and productivity, micro-enterprises, etc.

• Teams need to develop Business case around the selected theme by following Business Model Canvas (Please follow the template available in the case brief download)
• Identify Risks associated with the business.
• Submit a PPT with up to 7 slides of their BIG Idea excluding a cover slide containing team details. Annexures, if desired, can be added in addition to these 8 slides.
• It is mandatory to have Business Model Canvas in the last slide. Rest of the slides can contain the Inputs/ Insights generated for business and other details mentioned above.
• Deck submissions can be uploaded only in .ppt/.pptx/.pdf format and please ensure that file size is less than 5 MB.
• Only Team Leader would be able to make the submissions. Please submit your files in this naming convention only: Leader's First Name_Team Name_Institute Name
• Team leader can change their submissions by clicking on Submission and then Change Submission, any time before the submission deadline.
• Please make your submissions well before the deadline to avoid any last-minute hassles.

Round 2:

• Basis Round 1 submission, top 20 teams would be shortlisted for Round 2
• Submission should contain a cover slide, 10 main slides for analysis and solution. In addition to these 10 slides, there can be annexures and any other supporting details.
• More details would be shared with the shortlisted teams in due course of time.

Round 3:

• Top 3 teams would be shortlisted for Round 3- National finale.
• National Finalist teams will get the opportunity to present their ideas to the Senior Leadership of Tata Steel
• Further details would be shared with the shortlisted teams in due course of time.

Team Structure

• All Participating teams should consist of 3 members
• Each member has to register with valid college email IDs
• One person cannot be a member of more than one team
• All the team members must be from the same institute /campus and they can be a mix of students from different specializations and different year of study
• Leader of each team will need to register on Unstop website after having gone through all the rules and guidelines.
• Case brief will be accessible to the registered teams from 16th Nov’23 on the competition page itself.
