1907 - Weld and Srinivas chanced upon the site at Sakchi as they rode
along the Subarnarekha river bed

- The first stake for construction of buildings is driven in the forest covered soil of
Sakchi
1909 - The
prospecting licence for iron ore held by Tata Steel in Mayurbhanj is converted into a
mining lease.

Agreement signed for acquisition of land
1910 - Dam
built across the river Subarnarekha
