Mr B Muthuraman

The emergence of Tata Steel as a world class manufacturer is amply reflected in the acceptance of its products by the country’s foremost auto manufacturers, as well as the best ever half yearly performance by some of its business units and divisions. This, however, is not enough for it to ensure future success, the Managing Director, Mr B Muthuraman felt. “It was a great disappointment seeing the first half performance and in the second half we should make up as we should stop wasteful expenditure and we have to make sure that we produce as much as we can and make up for what we have lot in the first half of the year. And we must make an extraordinary marketing effort. Please pay attention to performance.”

In response to a query from Mr I C Sharma of FAMD, Joda on performance linked career growth rather than growth linked to specific eligibility criteria, Mr Muthuraman once again reiterated, “Tata Steel is a Company where anybody can become anything. It is going to depend on your performance.”

Tata Steel has Launched two new publications to share the entire gamut of its activities in Jharkhand and Orissa with its stakeholders

EDITORIAL

Dear Reader,

It takes two hands to clap, two to tango and “there’s no fire without a spark,” said the Boss. It also requires committed partners to ignite progress and prosperity for the people.

“Partners in Progress” appears to be the mantra of the day. Both industry and state governments have awakened to the fact that, for the sustainable development of people they must work in tandem. Business beyond profit making is a shibboleth in the Tata Group and has been practiced by it for more than a century. For Tata Steel, which has always believed that it must work in close contact with its stakeholders, this growing acceptance of the needs for partnerships is like lifting a toast to its values and beliefs.

Tata Steel, in its march towards its global aspirations and augmenting its capacities, has announced projects and investments that run into millions of rupees. The ultimate objective of these projects is to “improve the quality of life of the communities” and not just to make profits. This vision can only be achieved by partnering with governments and other stakeholders.

As individual stakeholders of the Tata Steel, we must derive pride and satisfaction from this – our Company is a partner in the progress of fellow citizens. Tata Steel’s role as an able partner has been well appreciated and reciprocated by the Government of Jharkhand, which renewed the land lease of Jamshedpur, fully aware it was in the best interest of the citizens of the city.

Best wishes and have a safe festive season!
