The budding stars from the twin townships with their coaches

During a week-long camp organised by the Human Resources Development of the OMQ Division at Noamundi and Joda, children of the twin townships grabbed the opportunity to train as athletes. Over 300 aspirants crowded the screening session held before the camp. Under the supervision of Ritesh Kumar, a well-known athlete of Jharkhand, over 150 boys and girls trained in disciplines such as long jump, high jump, sprinting and long distance running, at the sprawling Noamundi Sports Complex and Central Play Ground, Joda. Those who showed immense promise were honoured and felicitated.

For the adults, the benefits that Life Style Management can yield were the subject of a presentation-cum-demonstration conducted by Mr J P Singh, a national basketball coach. He underscored the perils of a sedentary life which, Mr Singh told the Company’s employees, can result in hypertension, diabetes, high blood pressure and may adversely impact their quality of life.

A lot of work
but we still need to play

Tata Steel’s focus on employee health prompted its operating units to draw up well-defined sports calendars, and also its employees to actively participate in intra-company and inter-company competitions.

The Sports Department of the Division took the initiative to organise the 1st Inter Corporate Cricket Tournament at Digwadih on April 11. Christened “Corporate Cup,” the flood-lit match was played between Tata Steel and DGMS. Given a target of scoring 121 runs by DGMS in the scheduled 15 overs, Tata Steel scored 123 runs in 14.3 overs to become champions with a five-wicket win. Mr Ch. Divaker, General Manager, Jharia and Mr M M Sharma, Director General, DGMS, Dhanbad gave away the prizes to the winners.
