   TUBES GEARED UP
   TO MATCH DEMAND

In its journey to become a 0.5 million tonne tube producer the Company’s Tubes Division, has set up a new state-of-the-art 3” Commercial Tube Mill with an installed capacity of 80,000 tonnes per annum (tpa). This will increase the Division’s in-house production capacity from 220,000 tpa to 300,000 tpa. The products from this mill will help the Division cater to increased demand in the Structural, Plumbing, Irrigation and Process industry segments.

The mill was inaugurated on June 24, 2006 by Mr. Ishaat Hussain, Director, Tata Sons Limited along with Mr. B Muthuraman, Managing Director, Tata Steel. The function was attended by channel partners, top dignitaries of Tata Steel and Group companies, office-bearers of Tata Workers Union, suppliers, members of the print and electronic media, as well as employees of the Division.

Mr. Ishaat Hussain recollected memories of his tenure at Tubes Division and wished the Division every success in its future endeavours.

While addressing the gathering, the Managing Director, Mr. Muthuraman congratulated the Division for its performance in the financial year just concluded and the progress made in executing its growth plans. He also exhorted the Division to assiduously work towards becoming a one million tonne tube producer within the next five years.

Mr. Raghunath Pandey, President, Tata Workers Union, applauded the performance of the Division. On behalf of the employees he assured its management of their commitment in the Division’s future growth.

The new-state-of-the-art Commercial Tube Mill produces 19.00 mm to 76.20 mm outer diameters tubes in the thickness range of 1.2 mm to 6.00 mm and achieves burr free tube ends.
