Tata Steels
Excellent Performance on Sustainable Development among large business
organizations during the year 2006 was recognized with the CII-ITC Sustainability
Award.
The award
signifies Tata Steels commitment and outstanding sustainability performance in terms
of policy, practices and in actual results.
The jury for the awards said
in its declaration
Instituted by the CII-ITC Centre of
Excellence for Sustainable Development, the purpose of the award is to put forth role
models in sustainable development for Indian business. It also serves as a
knowledge-imparting tool and will increase the understanding of Indian businesses about
the critical elements of business approaches, strategies and practices for Sustainability.
The recognition is thus an acknowledgment of Tata Steels excellent environment,
social and economic performance - the three pillars of Sustainability.
The award was presented to the Company,
at the final session of the CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) National Conference
& Annual Session - 2006, by the Honble Minister of Commerce & Industry, Mr.
Kamal Nath and was received on behalf of it by Mr. H M Nerurkar, Vice President,
Kalinganagar Project, Orissa. |

The Managing Director of Tata Steel, Mr. B. Muthuraman
is among 20 select business, labour and civil society leaders from across the world to be
appointed to serve on the Board of UN Global Compact, the worlds largest voluntary
corporate citizenship initiative.
These appointments are a singular honour
for all Board members as they acknowledge the leadership role both the individuals and
their organizations have played in furthering corporate citizenship. Mr. Muthuraman is the
only Board member from India.
The appointments follow a
comprehensive consultation process involving all Global Compact stakeholders, including
its local networks, a release from the office of the Secretary General, United
Nations said. The Board will provide strategic advice for the Global Compact Initiative
and make recommendations to the UN body, participants and other stakeholders. |
