Bright young students, part of the International
Masters Management programme conducted jointly by the McGill University (Canada),
Lancaster (UK), Insead (France), Kobe (Japan) and IIM, Bangalore visited Jamshedpur on
January 12 and 13 to learn about Tata Steels unique practices and successes.

ISO/TS 16949 for Tarapur Wire Division
Tata Steels Wire Division (Tarapur Wire
Plant) has been certified to be ISO/TS 16949 compliant by RWTUV, Germany. The award was
presented to the Division of February 10, 2004 at Tarapur - Kurgaon. |
During their stay, these twenty participants from
eight countries, interacted with senior executives of the company and also visited the
Steel Plant. On their return to Bangalore (one of the five campuses where they spend a
fortnight each) the members of the team sent a huge Thank you in the form of a
card to the Managing Director, Mr B Muthuraman and Tata Steel. The visit to Tata
Steel by IMPM participants was a spectacular success. What the participants learned of
world class companies in India was incredible. They were truly impressed. Thank you for
making this possible, they wrote back

Mr Guy Dolle, Chairman, Management Board and CEO, Mr
Paul Matthys, Strategy and Planning- Mergers and Acquisitions and Mr Alain Devezac of
Arcelor were all in Jamshedpur recently for the signing of an Automotive Steel Technology
Agreement between Arcelor and Tata Steel.

Tata Steel and Arcelor have begun studies on the
requirement of galvanised steel sheets amongst automotive customers in India. Arcelor will
also assist Tata Steel in the latters efforts to cater to the stringent quality
requirements of the countrys auto manufacturers. The two companies will, as part of
this effort, jointly undertake to promote wider acceptance of high tensile and galvanised
steel sheets among them. This global assistance for Tata Steel will greatly benefit its
customers, especially keeping in view their requirements for safety, environment and
reduced car weight.

Tata Steel
plans to shift into top gear with the assistance of Arcelor |
Arcelor, which was formed after the merger of USINOR,
Arbed and Aceralia, is the largest steel producer in the world with a capacity of 47
million tonnes. It has a proven track record in technical expertise required in steel
making for the automotive industry. |
